As a graduate of the class of 1971, I learned to appreciate the black leather couches in the library. I am talking about, that in order to study for any length of time in the library(before dorms on campus), I would stay late studying in the library with intervals of sleeping on the couch. Once I was acquainted with the study routine, I could enjoy the extra curricula on campus. I helped start a chapter of Tau Epsilon Phi. This lead to my playing football as a right guard, playing a game against another frat, I injured my ankle during a tackle. Needless to say, it wouldn't have been a problem under normal circumstances. At the time, I went on a mini-semester trip to Europe for three weeks. The History of Ancient & Modern Rome was a course attended by 42 students & 3 professors. We went to London for 3 days, 10 days in Italy & 3 days in Paris. While there I must have injured my ankle several times on visits to Stonehenge, Pompeii, Herculenium, Naples, Florence & the Louvre. I intended to use my degree in Secondary Education after graduation. I was put on a waiting list with Baltimore City Schools. In the mean time I married my high school sweetheart Pam upon graduation. So, In 1973, I was hired a a high school teacher. I taught several classes for a few months before a teachers strike. After spending time with disgruntled teachers in picket lines I realized that this was not the direction in life for me. I then went to work in a jewelry distributor. There, I learned the buying & selling techniques which lead to other work over the years. During which time Pam & I had two wonderful children. My daughter Maya graduated from UMBC in 2000. She lives with her husband in Tel-Avi, Israel. My son Josh & his family lived in Monterey. Sadly, Pam passed away from Ovarian Cancer in December of 2013. In June of 2014 Josh made me an offer that I could not refuse. So, the day of the Napa earthquake, August the 24th, I moved to his home in Monterey & he & his family moved to Carmel. The life of retirement is not for me at the moment. I currently work as a buyer at CHOMP(The Community Hospital Of the Monterey Peninsula). I have many other stories to tell. Like how I started a jewelry factory in the Sinai. How I learned how to dismantle & reconfigure an Uzzi blindfolded. Or the Karatedo classes that I taught which included Arabs from the city of El-Arish. That's for another time.
